The Team
Who We Are

Assistant Professor
She has 10+ years of research experience developing sustainable materials and products within international multidisciplinary academic research environments in Brazil, Finland, Canada, and the Netherlands. She is an expert in the processability, modification, conversion, and characterization of biomass, wood, cellulose, and biopolymers from macro to nanoscale for multifunctional and advanced applications.
Chotiwit Sriwong
PhD Candidate
He was born and raised in Bangkok, Thailand. His passion for chemistry and biology led him to pursue a BSc and MSc in Biotechnology, specializing in biomaterials. In March 2024, He began his PhD at WUR, focusing on sustainable nanocellulose for medical applications. He is a big fan of biomaterials, cellulose, and tissue engineering.

Anggita Sari Praharasti
PhD Candidate
She is a PhD candidate in Food Process Engineering, Physical Chemistry, and Soft Matter at WUR. Her project is about hydrogel-based materials using Seaweed (Agar) and Nanocellulose. She is also an early-stage researcher at the National Research and Innovation Agency of Indonesia in Food Processing studies.

Neil Dekkers
Undergraduate Student
He is a BSc student in Molecular Life Sciences, working on his thesis, which focuses on Microfluidics Pickering Emulsions using nanocellulose. He is inspired by biology to find solutions to human problems and is excited about new, inspiring ideas.

Anh Phong Nguyen
Master's Student
He is an international student currently pursuing his Master’s in Biotechnology, with a specialization in the Medical Field. He comes from Belgium, where he completed a Bachelor's in Bioscience Engineering. This background has allowed him to broaden both my curiosity and knowledge, as it covers a wide range of domains. He hopes to continue exploring these interests through his thesis on antimicrobial coatings for endotracheal tubes (ETTs) using carboxylated cellulose nanofibrils (C-CNF) and trimethyl chitosan (TMC)
Daphne Jeukens
Undergraduate Student
She is a fourth-year student pursuing a bachelor's degree in biotechnology. Her research is focused on generating biobased bone scaffolds using nanocellulose materials. In her free time, you can find her at the Bongerd, where she plays volleyball at WaHo or hangs out with her friends.

Wessel Knijnenburg
Undergraduate Student
He is a Biotechnology bachelor student doing his thesis on antifouling and antimicrobial coatings for endotracheal tubes (ETTs) using carboxylated cellulose nanofibrils (C-CNF) and trimethyl chitosan (TMC)
Catriona Trager
Master's Student
She is part of the Food Science program, and her research is on the development of cellulose coatings for food packaging materials.
